Steps to Rent a Property

  1. Determine Your Budget, Needs and Location

Calculate how much rent you can comfortably afford each month, including:

  • Moving costs

Create a list of priorities such as:

  • Pet-friendly policies
  • Transit access
  • Parking
  • Laundry
  1.  Get Your Documents Ready

Most landlords will request:

  • Government photo ID
  • Employment letter
  • Recent pay stubs
  • Credit report or credit score
  • References
  • Rental application

Having everything prepared in advance helps you compete in a fast-moving rental market.

  • Rental websites
  • Social media
  • REALTOR® networks

When viewing a property, check:

  • Condition of appliances

  • Safety features
